Omega Quintet

Omega Quintet is a hybrid between an idol simulation game and a Japanese role-playing game for the PlayStation 4. The player plays as Takuto, the manager of the Verse Maidens, an idol group that use th

Omega Quintet Screenshots

Omega Quintet Screenshots

Omega Quintet is one of those games that I’m really on the fence about. On one hand, the amount of busywork required to get the real ending is absolutely maddening and exists solely to pad out the game’s length. Case in point, the screenshots below cut out something like 4-5 full chapters where nothing in …

Omega Quintet Review

Omega Quintet Review

Call it superstition, but I always like my first review of a new year to be somewhat indicative of that year. That’s one of the reasons I had intended Omega Quintet to be that first review—to say that I’m out of my element here is an understatement, as this isn’t only a game heavily inspired …

Omega Quintet: Progress Log #8 [END]

Omega Quintet: Progress Log #8 [END]

[Click here to start from the first progress log] Chapters 9 and 10 are mercifully short as far as the sidequest fluff is concerned, and the final two boss fights proved to be total pushovers (neither of them even got a single attack in before being chain attacked to death). Which is to say that …

Omega Quintet: Progress Log #6

Omega Quintet: Progress Log #6

[Click here to start from the first progress log] Okay, so I just finished chapter 7 (Omega Quintet is set up in an episodic format despite not being released piecemeal) and it took forever. Every time I’d push the story slightly forward, a new barrage of sidequests would pop up and demand addressing lest I …

Omega Quintet: Progress Log #5

Omega Quintet: Progress Log #5

[Click here to start from the first progress log] I have no idea what the ideal difficulty setting is for this game. Normal is the easiest one available, and I typically stick with that when the option is provided because normal tends to be synonymous with “the difficulty this was specifically designed to be played …

Omega Quintet: Progress Log #4

Omega Quintet: Progress Log #4

[Click here to start from the first progress log] All of my worry that I missed a small number of skill-level-increasing quests turns out to have been for nothing, as #4 and #5 ended up showing up after #6 for some inexplicable reason. That’s not how numbers work, Omega Quintet. Having said that, the “Misty …

Omega Quintet: Progress Log #3

Omega Quintet: Progress Log #3

[Click here to start from the first progress log] All right, the combat mechanics in general are definitely a bright spot. The sidequests, on the other hand, are soul-crushingly tedious fetch quests, and trying to do them all isn’t only difficult because of the weird way they update (sometimes you get new ones after finishing …

Omega Quintet: Progress Log #1

Omega Quintet: Progress Log #1

First, let’s address the elephant in the room (specifically, the one with the big sparkly anime eyes): this isn’t my kind of game. That’s not entirely accurate, though, because it’s more that I’ve never bothered giving these types of games a chance. All of my experiences have been of this deeply anime style bleeding into …

Storyline

Omega Quintet takes place in a world that is being damaged by a phenomenon known as the “Beep,” which has been degenerating the life of humankind by affecting their minds. The game's prominent characters are the "Verse Maidens", an idol group with the power to fight off the Beep. These powers are used to fight the Beep and save mankind, by giving them hope and dreams. The members of the Verse Maidens are Otoha, Kyoka, Kanadeko, Nene, and Aria. Otoha is new member of the Verse Maidens, who is hard worker who is always positive, but is also still growing and can be prone to making clumsy mistakes. Kyoka has a strong sense of responsibility who does her job as a Verse Maiden while caring for others, and also has a hard time expressing feelings. Kanadeko has an explosive personality and often makes decisions without thinking clearly, Nene is very timid and often nervous and weak-willed, whom often shies away and hides behind Kanadeko, and Aria, whom is the eldest member of the Verse Maidens, whom is mysterious and tends to distance herself with her speech and behavior. Other characters include Takuto, protagonist of Omega Quintet, described as a positive guy whom acts as the Verse Maidens' manager and bodyguard, Momoka, a veteran Verse Maiden, Ayumi, Momoka's manager, Shiori, Kyoka's coach, Godou, the leader of the neighbourhood watch, and Tomekichi, a fan of the Verse Maidens, and is the leader of one of the supporting fan groups. The game features "costume destruction" in a manner similar to Senran Kagura, which happens when the girls get parts of their clothing torn off as a result of taking repeated damage from enemies. Another feature in the game is the "PVS (Promotion Video System)", which allows players to make their own dance video and custom live performances to their liking. This is done choosing over 150 dances for the characters. Omega Quintet lets players make light waves and effects using the PlayStation Move controller, and they can feature in the music video itself by using the PlayStation 4 camera. During the game's fights, its Voltage Gauge fills up when Takuto protects the idols when the player attacks the enemies. When it rises to a certain point, the player can activate Live Mode, which gives the idols bonuses. The player must also adjust the turn order successfully, as team attacks are formed if characters act one after each other.
