Myself personally I have always been a Halo guy, but I do enjoy Battlefield and Call of Duty games too. The three highlights of my online gaming life have been Halo 3, Halo 4, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty Black Ops.
I bought an XBox One for the Halo Master Chief Collection and was highly disappointed with problems that came with it and lost patience. I also bought Call of Duty Advanced Warfare but just could not get into it for some reason. Next up was Battlefield Hardline and I was not confident that I would enjoy this game either. I decided to give the beta a go earlier this year and really enjoyed it so I thought I'd pre-order it and give it a proper go.
Having played it all this evening I can truly say this game is fantastic! Great graphics, great sound, highly addictive online gameplay. This game is the game that will keep me hooked until Halo 5 (although I was not blown away by the beta!!). I can't understand the negative reviews because this easily beats the latest CoD without a doubt (in my opinion!).
Highly recommended!!
***UPDATE*** Having played Team Deathmatch mostly I do have one criticism. When you respawn you seriously have to duck for cover because alot of the time you get placed very near the enemy. Many a time I have respawned only to die seconds later because I'm next to the enemy! Hopefully this will be addressed in an update!
So it came as a shock to me that BF:Hardline has a very well produced campaign mode called "Episodes", where you play a "good cop" detective trying to stay on the straight and narrow. It was fun and engaging and rewards you for being stealthy rather than going in all guns blazing...but you can do that too of course! It never goes too far on the spectacle, although at points it almost reaches Call of Duty levels of absurdity. Luckily Hardline has good acting and good humour to back it up. It's also gorgeous! Great care has been taken on the visuals and skyboxes.
Another note is that the majority of the achievements/trophies are single player. So if that's you shtick, have at it! I got 850G in a weekend.
The multiplayer modes are a little diffrent to previous iterations of Battlefield, the most fun being Hotwire. In this mode control points are vehicles and you have to keep on the move to whittle down the enemy's spawn tickets. Blasting heavy rock from your sports car with your buddy hanging out the window shooting some crims was a highlight for sure.
They've overhauled the load out system and not for the better. Cops and crooks have diffrent weapon sets (only when you get 1,250 kills with the same weapon can you use it for both teams) and forget about custom classes...you're stuck this time round. If you want to be a medic but have a DMR or be the explosives guy while wielding an AK47...stay with battlefield 4. And instead of unlocking weapons just as you progress through a class, this time round there is in game currency you use to buy weapons...you'll have all you need in no time with no feeling of accomplishment.
Summary: great story mode. Feels like a single player game they slapped the Battlefield logo and multiplayer onto. Online mode is more Call of duty "run-n-gun" rather than classic battlefield.
