About Playseat

The first time Fernando Smit - founder and president of Playseat - thought about building a racing chair, it was because he wanted a better way to play racing games. The seat is a great addition to your gaming experience! The seat is sturdy however some pre drilled holes on the bottom rails would have been nice to secure the seat to a platform as I have done. One of the brackets that mount to the side of the chair did not align perfectly which required me to elongate the hole a bit with my drill, no big deal but you would think the pre fit engineering would be better. The seat is comfortable and I use it while playing 4 or 6 hours at time and it is comfortable the entire time. Keep in mind I am 6"3 and weigh 285 so my legs do rub the side a bit but not enough to be uncomfortable, it has plenty of room for the average sized person THE BIG DRAW BACK! Before buying the seat I read many reviews, most were ok but many people mentioned the box being damaged and small parts missing like screws. It is a heavy seat, about 75lbs, so I took a chance and when it arrived the box was turn open in two places just like other reviews had mentioned. One of the plastic parts was cracked but no big deal as it was a cosmetic part and was fixed with some crazy clue. The holes/tears in the box also exposed some screw packages and lucky for me they did not fall out because without the screws I would have had to send it back with great disappointment! So all in all its a great addon to gaming and works well for emersion, and is a sturdy seat but getting it delivered without damage seems to be a big problem. Keep in mind the item is well boxed, minds was double boxed but because of the weight the shipping companies seem to man handle the box causing damage, not sure what can be done about that. I would ask the company that makes the seat to provide (Fragile Handle with Extreme Care) stickers to Amazon to affix to the box before shipping! Or do so at the company which ever the case may be.

The parts and pieces appear to be very sturdy, and when I get it assembled will likely be a great chair. Mine came missing hardware, contacted Playseat and was told to contact the seller, as if a retailer keeps hardware around just in case a manufacturer forgets to put it in the box. Customer service couldn't even give me the spec on the missing bolts so I can find them easily to buy separately. Trying to find the hardware locally now.

UPDATE: Found hardware locally and assembled the chair. Comfort, quality and utility are definitely good. Increasing rating to 4 stars. Would be 5, for the missing hardware.

First off, I do like this chair. It is comfortable to sit in and it works exactly as you would expect, however, it has some quality control issues with the pieces, as some others have mentioned, there are issues with the holes aligning on some parts. They seem to have attempted to rectify this by making the holes double width which allows them to slide, unfortunately, this has the impact that you have to leave the bolts somewhat loose until it is fully assembled to be able to attach things. The instructions are interesting as they tell you to use a particular bolt at one point that you do not get (there is a different one that you do get that is to be used), there is an additional plate for the side tables that isn't even mentioned in the instructions. The Allen key/Allen wrench it comes with was slightly too big for the holes in the bolts so I had to use my own for them. The central joystick bit has several holes that look like they can be used for mounting, however, they will not fit any of the most common sticks as most of them are blocked below by the post and cannot be used and they are in positions that don't fit a lot of sticks. This was very annoying to me as I have the joystick that is featured in the main image of the product, so I wrongfully assumed it would be able to be bolted. They do provide a bunch of velcro strips that I currently use.

The Playseat company themselves aren't very responsive to emails, I emailed them asking if I could purchase an additional side table as I have both of mine currently on a single side for a throttle and a keypad, they asked for my order number and once I told them I purchased it here they never bothered to respond to me again, even after a few chase emails I sent. That alone as knocked a star off this as I imagine they'd be the same if you were contacting about an issue.

The first one I ordered had broken, scratched and mangled parts. I returned it for another. The second one was in good condition over all. The instruction manual had errors in it. One of the large hex bolts was missing the hex to be able to use a wrench on it. The center mounted poll has a stop on the bottom bracket. So, there's no way to adjust having a three foot poll sticking out in front of you. The mount that supposed to slide over the poll to hold a center controller wouldn't slide past the tensioner. The whole chair sits too low to the floor, with no way of adjusting the height. The width of the chair isn't adequate for an adult.

Christmas came early! Seat is easy to assemble, read the instructions guys. There was a minor problem with a couple of plastic inserts, Amazon offered to replace the whole thing, brilliant customer service, but I swopped the two parts over, Sorted!. I'm 6' 4" in old money, it's too low for my desk & legs. Visit local lumber yard and put it up 10cm,. Now I can slide the stick (Amazon supplied Warthog) right to the bottom of the slide. I have the throttle on the left only. You do really do almost feel like in a jet, Been in Harriier & Tornado,squeezed past the leg length/bang seat medical. So turn the lights down, put the head tracker and really enjoy. It's comfortable, solid, well manufactured, everything fits like a glove. The seat back is very adjustable in forward backward line. Glad I got it.
